From 25 to 28 September 2023, IFEMA Madrid and Cuatro Vientos aerodrome will host three events in one: the Airspace Integration Congress, Expodrónica and World Space Summit

Drones, aircraft and space operations to coexist in Madrid at Airspace Integration Week

Airspace Integration Week Madrid

For the first time in Europe, next week Madrid will reproduce the Digital Global Sky: the so-called Single Sky, where traditional aviation, unmanned aircraft and space operations, which are currently in full expansion, converge. For this purpose, from 25 to 28 September, IFEMA's Hall 12 and Cuatro Vientos aerodrome will host three specialised forums that will converge for the first time in a single event: Airspace Integration Week.

Thus, the Airspace Integration Congress - organised by ATCA - joins forces with Expodrónica, which also promotes the first edition of the World Space Summit (WOSS), so that together they offer the largest event in the sector in Europe and the only one in which a large exhibition area, a full agenda of world-leading speakers and live flight demonstrations coexist.

The Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, David Lucas, will open the event on Monday, 25 September, together with Michael Callender, NATO Head of Aerospace Capabilities; Karsten Stoye, Head of the Civil-Military Cooperation Division of EUROCONTROL; Brian Bruckbauer, President and CEO of ATCA (Air Traffic Control Association) and Isabel Buatas, founder and director of Expodrónica.

Airspace Integration Week Madrid

Airspace Integration Week - promoted by Expodrónica and ATCA - will bring together companies, organisations and speakers from more than 70 countries in the first event that encompasses the ATM, STM and UTM sectors, as well as the most relevant aspects of civil and military cooperation. It will also feature a full programme of presentations, conferences and round tables in its four auditoriums: ENAIRE ATM Integration Theatre; Space Theatre; Expodrónica U-space / Civil UAVs Initiative Theatre and Spotlight Arena.

Among the most relevant issues that will be discussed are all the aspects that will enable the creation of the Single European Sky (SES), which will restructure the air navigation management system to accommodate the new players operating mobility, transport and aerial exploration, taking into account the security and defence perspectives. The actual deployment of these operations will be tested on an experimental basis at Cuatro Vientos aerodrome.

Likewise, the European Drone Strategy 2.0 will have its own space that will allow progress to be made on the new scenario of shared management of space between the different Member States.

In keeping with the nature of the event, designed by and for industry, one of the most important events will feature Giorgio Coni, director of NATO's Armaments and Aerospace Capabilities Division, who will explain the business opportunities and how industry can be integrated into current and future projects. His presentation will take place on 25 September at 16:00 in the ENAIRE ATM Integration Theatre.

In addition, the panel of experts is completed with names of heads of relevant organisations such as the European Union, EUROCONTROL, SENASA or ENAIRE and companies such as Airbus, Telefónica, The Boing Company or Indra.

Among the companies and organisations that will be participating in the aerospace integration week, CRIDA A.I.E, INECO, Ingenav, The MITRE Corporation, EUROCONTROL†HQ, the Iran Air Navigation and Airports Company, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, the European Defence Agency, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, the US Air Force, DJI Enterprise, ACR, GESAB, the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, Airbus, HEXAGON, Alter Technology, HungaroControl, NEXT SOLUTIONS LIMITED, AZIMUT GLOBAL, Iberia, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, Wings for your eyes, Hunde Aerospace, NavBrasil, Bluenest, IDS, RTX, Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, GdF Gewerkschaft der Flugsicherung and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace.

Airspace Integration Awards

For the first time, Airspace Integration Week will award prizes to the initiatives that make the most significant contribution to the integration of the different sectors. Thus, among the proposals submitted, the jury has designated the following as finalists: ENAIRE and Frequentis, in ATM; Airbus and Austro Control & Frequentis in the UAM/UAS sector; and EUROCONTROL LARA Deployment and NAV CANADA, in the field of civil-military cooperation. The winners will be announced on 26 September at 16:30.
