Emirates hosts the latest edition of GITEX Global, the region's most important technology event
The 41st edition of GITEX Global, the region's most important technology event, opened this Sunday in the Emirates. Some 700 companies from more than 60 countries will be present at the event, and up to 400 investors will have their eyes on the innovations presented at the fair, which will run until 21 October.
This year's event coincides with Expo Dubai 2020, which is why it will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, the Gulf country's space at the exhibition. From there, the Emirates aims to support technological innovators from all over the world and present the most relevant advances in the field, as well as gaining weight in one of the most important strategic issues in the short term.
Emirati Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence Omar bin Sultan Al Olama stressed that the event represents "a landmark event in the quest to accelerate national transformations through technology across the Middle East and Africa". "The time has come for UAE projects to lay the foundation for an innovative, technology-driven economy," he said.
Al Olama added that GITEX Global "will serve as a platform for essential knowledge exchange between countries and create opportunities across a range of technological and economic spheres". During the week, in addition to hosting events on Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications, cloud solutions, Big Data, cybersecurity, blockchain and fintech, Emirates has included a conference to discuss global ICT challenges and how technology can be used to achieve sustainable socio-economic development.
GITEX will thus become the only technology event to be held in person since the start of the pandemic. An opportunity to gather all the advances and present the latest developments and gain weight within an industry, the technology industry, which is already key. In this sense, the United Arab Emirates aims to boost its image as a pioneer, which other Gulf countries have tried to arrogate to themselves.
The objectives of the Emirates are to become an international test bed for major technology companies and developers. The show will also feature a host of companies such as Huawei, Cisco, Ericsson, Avaya, Etisalat, Epson, Honeywell, Dell Technologies and Kaspersky, transatlantic companies operating in more than 26 sectors.
According to the organisers, the fair will put the focus on deepening the contact of women and young people with technology. For this reason, Emirates has included deep learning training sessions, workshops and live presentations that will help shape the future of the digital sector.
