Universal Studios Japan will open its Nintendo area in spring 2021
The Universal Studios Japan theme park will open in spring 2021 a theme area dedicated to well-known franchises of the video game developer and distributor Nintendo, such as Super Mario Bros.
Super Nintendo World, which will include the world's first attractions of this kind, was scheduled to open this year to coincide with the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, now postponed until the summer of 2021, but was postponed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the park said in a statement.
The theme area is a life-size recreation of different scenes from the platform games starring Mario that will be interactive and also features a go-kart track that emulates the popular driving game from the franchise of the best-known plumber in video games.
The investment for the construction of Super Nintendo World in the theme park located in Osaka (western Japan) was 60,000 million yen (480 million euros/565 million dollars).
The original opening of the playground was to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the launch of the game "Super Mario Bros", which was released in Japan on 13 September 1985.
Prior to the official opening of the area, Universal Studios Japan will open a Mario, Luigi and company inspired cafe and shop on October 16th where it will sell groceries and franchise products.
