Windows 365: Microsoft imposes its ecosystem and sends the desktop to the cloud
Those who have tried Windows 11 speak of an environment that is nothing like the Windows of a lifetime. Life has been made much simpler with icons and folders that confused the user. Apple's Mac desktop look and feel was pioneering in making everything that was annoying invisible. Now Microsoft has followed suit with version 11 of a top-selling operating system that is installed on the vast majority of the world's computers.
Now it is time to stop Apple. Sillicon Valley has been using Windows to capture customers for years. Boot Camp is an official software installed on Macs to facilitate access to Windows from their computers. It is nothing more than a placebo to prevent new Mac customers from getting nervous and thinking that with their new (and expensive) computer they won't be able to do what they did with their old (and cheap) PC.
Windows has never wanted to enter this war. It has had its market share since time immemorial. Out of every 10 computers sold in 2020, 87% had Windows installed and 9.5% MacOs. It was not worth it for them to wear themselves out against someone who had little market share and moved in different contexts.
Then came Apple's M1 chip, which gave more and better life to their Macs. They stopped relying on Intel to create their own soul and improve their performance. The user may not recognise the move, but the breakthrough is vitally important. Intel has fought back by cleaning up processors and improving new models.
And in this troubled river, Microsoft has caught the fish, which, logically, depends on Intel processors for its operating system. If Windows 11 is going to change the user's working environment, Windows 365 is going to make it possible to stay in that space. On a Mac or an iPad, getting into the Windows desktop will be possible with this hybrid.
In the spectacular advert on their website they explain how the connection process will be from the browser itself. They don't descend into the mud of advertising an Apple device and connecting it to Windows, that's a job for YouTube reviews.
Windows is selling the 365 system as a possibility for collaboration between your Surface desktop, laptop or tablet devices. But what may appeal most to the buyer is having access to their Mac browser to their fully customised Windows desktop with 512Gb of memory and 16Gb of RAM. And they go further because Windows 365 will require a new subscription and that's the best way to tie the customer in. A monthly payment that disappears among the expenses and that forces you to continue because it creates a certain habit and need.
Microsoft has made a big splash with Windows 365. It is not about convincing those who have been following in its footsteps for decades, it wants the new generations to think about it before the fad leads them to bite the apple. To create a giant ecosystem with the xBox and its games in the cloud. Microsoft is growing.
