According to Maghreb Intelligence, a total of 155 high-ranking Algerian army officers are currently detained in the Blida military prison. They include sixty generals, ten lieutenant generals and eighty-five colonels. This situation, unprecedented in Algeria's contemporary history, reflects the growing tension in the country and the repression since the beginning of the 2019 political crisis, the consequences of which continue to affect the North African country.

According to Maghreb Intelligence, the conditions of detainees in Blida prison are increasingly critical. Many of these generals, who have dedicated their lives to the service of the nation, face inhumane conditions in detention, compounded by the lack of adequate medical care, which seriously endangers their health. In addition, the families of these senior officers, many of whom fought against Islamist terrorist militias in the 1990s, also suffer the consequences of this repression.

These consequences include legal harassment, a ban on leaving the country, the seizure of real estate and financial assets, as well as a ban on working in state institutions or strategic public companies, among other restrictions.
