The Algerian Army reaffirms its "loyalty" to the people and the Constitution
The monthly June issue of the National People's Army (PNA) magazine, El Djeich, has reaffirmed the support of the armed forces for the policies of the country's president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and for the Constitution. On its cover, one can read "Loyauté et fidelité à la patrie et au peuple", which in Spanish means "Loyalty and fidelity to the country and the people", and it includes the image of the president during his visit to the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence, where he gave a speech in which he expressed "the support of the people for his Army" and the "unbreakable bond" that exists between both.
Already in the editorial of the publication, one can read that "the search to build a new Algeria, based on the use of the popular will, in accordance with democratic principles, is undoubtedly the content of the proposal for the amended version of the Constitution, which stipulates that the decision to send PNA units outside our borders by the President of the Republic, as supreme head of the armed forces, will only be approved after the approval of two thirds of the two chambers of parliament", referring to the constitutional amendments that have been processed in order to submit the army to civilian power, the only legitimate one that holds real power in Algeria, and which provides for the development of a new military doctrine, which includes the possibility of sending soldiers to other countries, within the framework of the United Nations Peace Missions and in accordance with bilateral agreements.
"The Algerian Army, according to the new Magna Carta, will limit its functions to strictly military and security functions, including the fight against terrorism. President Tebboune seeks to strengthen the professionalization of the Armed Forces and to distance military officers and high command from business and politics, which have been the levers of corruption, nepotism and the progressive weakening of the military establishment," explained analyst Pedro Canales in Atalayar.
"The proposal for the participation of the PNA in peacekeeping operations, outside our national borders, is totally in line with our country's foreign policy which is based on firm and immutable principles, namely the rejection of the use of war and advocates peace, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, as well as the resolution of international conflicts and disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international legality represented by international and regional bodies," the editorial states. "The security of our country, which transcends our national geographic boundaries, requires, in light of the current regional situation and what it sustains as mutations and changes, the strengthening of protecting the security and stability of our homeland," it continues, adding that, "it is likely to contribute to the establishment of peace and security, particularly on the African continent, the scene of the greatest number of conflicts in the world and the deployment, also, of the greatest number of United Nations and African Union peacekeeping missions, in countries plagued by conflict and war.
"In conclusion, the Algerian people, throughout the national territory and throughout the world, are fully aware that the PNA will continue to be a solid shield and a deterrent against any threat that could affect the security, peace and sovereignty of our country, as it will remain faithful to the principles and values of the glorious November Revolution", the text concludes.
