  2. Arab League and Russia to work towards sustainable development goals

Recently, on the occasion of the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas, Morocco has again expressed its concerns over the devastation in the Palestinian enclave due to the Israeli military operation that began on October 7 following the terrorist group's attacks that left 1,200 Israelis killed and more than 200 kidnapped.

On the other hand, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health reports 20,000 deaths since the conflict began.

Israeli operations against Hamas have intensified amid a stalemate in negotiations for a new ceasefire.

In this regard, according to The Wall Street Journal, Hamas reportedly rejected an Israeli proposal for a one-week truce in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of some 40 hostages, including all women and children still being held by the terrorist group, as well as elderly people in need of medical care.

This temporary ceasefire would also allow for the entry of more humanitarian aid for Gazan civilians.

Morocco's efforts in Libya and against terrorism

In addition to underlining Morocco's support for the Palestinian people, the joint Russian-Arab statement also praised the foreign policy developed by Rabat and outlined by King Mohammed VI.

Among the foreign policy measures and initiatives taken by the Kingdom, Morocco's efforts to support inter-Libyan dialogue are underlined. The joint statement therefore emphasised the importance of the Skhirat Agreement in resolving the crisis in Libya and the commitment to support the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement issued at the end of the summit also highlighted the anti-terrorism policies developed by Morocco and its firmness in dealing with security threats.

It highlighted Morocco's hosting of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, as well as the Kingdom's role and efforts during its presidency of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum from 2021 to 2023.

Arab League and Russia to work towards sustainable development goals

The Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum also welcomed the choice of Morocco to host the 93rd session of the Interpol General Assembly in Marrakech in 2025, stressing the importance of hosting the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Marrakech in October.

Morocco's efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals were also highlighted during the summit. The Forum for Arab-Russian Cooperation adopted the joint action plan between the Arab League and the Russian Federation for the period 2024-2026, calling on both parties to work on the implementation of activities aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
