Brahim Moussa, Moroccan doctor and ambassador, lover of Spain, dies


The Covid-19 has taken the life of Brahim Moussa, Saharawi, born in Dakhla in 1945, lover of Spain, was considered one of the pillars of Moroccan diplomacy in recent years in Latin America. His death took place last Friday, January 29, at the age of 76, in the military hospital of Rabat, where he was being treated for respiratory insufficiency caused by the coronavirus. 
Moussa was the first Saharawi doctor of medicine at the Complutense University of Madrid; very young procurator for the province of Villa Cisneros; chief doctor of Dakhla in 1979 appointed by Hassan II at a key moment for the situation in Western Sahara; five years chief doctor of the province of Tangier in 1980; consul general of Morocco in the Canary Islands from 1985 to 1992; ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Morocco in Mauritania from 1992 to 1997 and ambassador in charge of the mission of the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 1999. 
After the accession to the throne of Mohamed VI, he was appointed ambassador in several Latin American countries, including Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, where he won numerous supporters for Morocco's theses on the Sahara.
Exceptional person, according to those who knew him, jovial, funny, affectionate and a true gentleman. A walking history book of his country and of the tribes of southern Morocco.

He received several prestigious decorations, including the Commander of the Order of Africa, awarded by the Spanish authorities in 1974, the Ouissam of the Green March, Ouissam of Dakhla, Commander of the National Order of Merit of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sanchez and Mella, the highest distinction of the Dominican Republic.
The Kingdom of Morocco loses a great man who served his country throughout his life, contributed to make Morocco more present on the international scene and always maintained an excellent relationship with Spain and the Spanish, always invited when he celebrated as ambassador the Feast of the Throne.
