Death at the DGSI headquarters in Algeria

While a second search of the deceased general's home in Annaba (600 km east of Algiers) was being carried out by elements of the same structure, under the interim command of General Abdelkader Haddad alias Nacer El-Djen, news of the death of one of Gaïd Salah's four sons, kidnapped on 7 December last, was confirmed. What had been whispered discreetly among officers and NCOs working in the Antar barracks (a notorious torture centre in the hills above Algiers) was increasingly confirmed.
With no news of her sons, the general's widow has made several visits to army headquarters and the office of the President of the Republic, without managing to meet either General Saïd Chengriha or President Tebboune. Her last attempt was made last Thursday. "The only thing she wanted to know was where her children were", says a confidential source.
General Saïd Chengriha does not know where Gaïd Salah's children are.
Tired of the endless requests from his predecessor's widow, General Chengriha asked for news of the missing. "All the heads of the security services who were questioned said they knew nothing," says our source. The army chief then gave them an ultimatum of one week to appear before the examining magistrate of the Blida military court. Two of Gaïd Salah's sons are being prosecuted for financial embezzlement and are implicated in the case of General Aouis, director of the residences of the Presidency of the Republic, who has been detained since October 2023.
To cover their tracks, the Algerian secret services launched a campaign of intoxication, making people believe that the disappeared had fled Algeria and were in Central Europe, as indicated by several emails that we received and that some websites manipulated by the same services hastened to publish.
The death of one of Gaïd Salah's sons, most probably the eldest, Mourad, is very plausible and explains the authorities' refusal to give news of the rest of the brothers. We will wait until the end of the week to find out if they will appear before the examining magistrate, as requested by the army chief of staff.
It should be recalled that two generals have already died in the Blida military prison without an autopsy or any investigation having been carried out. Major General Rachid Chouaki died in August 2023, followed a month later by Major General Djamel Laroussi, former head of the 2nd military region.
