La Unión Europea y Marruecos acuerdan firmar la primera alianza verde
The Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of the Green Pact, Frans Timmermans, will begin a two-day official visit to Morocco on Tuesday, during which he will sign the first green partnership against climate change with the Maghreb country.
This partnership is the first signed by the European Union in the framework of the Green Pact after the alliance established with Japan during a bilateral summit held in May 2021, the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco said in a statement.
The aim of the agreement is to strengthen cooperation in the fight against climate change and to advance energy transition projects and stimulate the green economy.
The same source indicated that Timmermans will meet with the President of the Moroccan Government Aziz Akkanhouch, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and will hold a joint meeting with the Moroccan Ministers of Energy, Industry, Economy and Agriculture.
During his stay in Morocco, the European Commissioner will also visit the Rabat-Salé tramway project and meet with private sector actors and young Moroccans to discuss climate action.
