The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and her counterpart in the Neighbourhood Policy, Olivér Várhelyi, will visit Morocco from this Tuesday in order to address issues of common interest and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the African country, the European Commission (EC) explained on Monday in a statement.

According to the EU executive, both commissioners will meet with several Moroccan ministers to discuss "areas of mutual interest and new opportunities for cooperation with this strategic partner".

The two commissioners will hold joint meetings with the Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita.

For his part, Commissioner Várhelyi will also meet unilaterally with the Moroccan Minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun; the Minister of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy; the Minister of Education, Saaïd Amzazi, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Moroccan Solar Energy Agency, Mustapha Bakkoury.

During this visit, Johansson will also visit several EU-funded projects in the field of migration and integration of immigrants, as well as the Mohammed VI Institute for training imams, and will do so in the company of the Minister of the Interior.

Finally, on Wednesday, the Minister of the Interior will make a technical visit to Morocco's border management activities in and around Tangier.

This visit takes place within the framework of the boost given to this cooperation after the meeting of the Association Council between the EU and Morocco, in June 2019, and after the adoption of a joint declaration on the strategic relationship between the two parties.
