Frente Obrero denies being in the service of Algeria and having received money from the North African country
Frente Obrero has denied that it has received 5 million euros from the Algerian Embassy in Madrid to follow its guidelines, taking advantage of the election campaign in Spain and attacking Morocco on Spanish territory, undermining the good diplomatic relationship that now exists between the Moroccan kingdom and Spain.
The information on the alleged Algerian money destined to Frente Obrero had been published by the media Euromagreb, and Atalayar reproduced this information in one of its articles, which also reflected the enormous unease of the Moroccan community in Spain, which published a communiqué strongly condemning the systematic and deliberate provocations promoted by some parties hostile to any solid and strategic relationship between the Kingdoms of Morocco and Spain, the latest of these provocations and anti-Moroccan attacks has been by the Frente Obrero party, through posters attacking a symbol of Moroccan sovereignty, in an immoral way that has nothing to do with freedom of expression.
This banner, placed on a building in the Madrid neighbourhood of Aluche, reproduced a caricatured image of Pedro Sánchez and Mohamed VI kissing each other on the mouth with the slogan "may Mohamed VI vote for you". The banner was removed days later by an anti-fascist group that put up a banner with other slogans.
Fermín Turia, one of the leaders of Frente Obrero and candidate number 2 for Madrid for the next elections, in which the group is running for the first time, announced legal action and a complaint to the Central Electoral Board for what they consider to be false news in view of this information published by Euromagreb and reported by Atalayar.
For his part, the president of the Frente Obrero, Roberto Vaquero, has sent a burofax to the editorial staff of Atalayar demanding the right to rectify some of the contents of the article entitled 'Algeria tries to damage Spanish-Moroccan relations through the Spanish extreme left'.
Of the three points of rectification raised, the first on the communiqué of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces of Morocco we have nothing to say, it will be up to this Moroccan political party to decide. And on the third point, which refers to the policy proposed by the Frente Obrero on relations with Morocco, this is a matter for this political party. In the case of the second point, and in accordance with its right to rectification as stated in the law, we publish the text that has been sent to us.
"The political party FRENTE OBRERO declares the ABSOLUTE FALSENESS of the news that, offered to the Spanish public by these Moroccan sectors, affirms that the Algerian State has financed our organisation electorally with five million euros with the aim of muddying the relations of Spain with the Kingdom of Morocco: the electoral financing of our party is fully transparent and public, this news being a simple FAKE".
In view of the insults and attacks that have been made against Atalayar by leaders of the Frente Obrero in different media and some misinformation in media such as Patente de corso, we can only reject these insults and attacks, regret if there have been death threats against some people and affirm that Atalayar is a Spanish media that deals mainly with issues from North Africa and the Middle East, among other areas of the world, and is not a Moroccan media as it has been spread through the internet and maintains totally legal and legitimate collaboration agreements with public and private institutions.
The editorial line of Atalayar is to promote knowledge of the reality of the countries of North Africa, among other parts of the world, to promote understanding and improve coexistence and collaboration in all political, economic, social and cultural sectors.
