Germany and France consider Morocco a key player in the fight for security and against crime and terrorism.

Marrakesh has hosted high-level meetings on defence and security on the occasion of the 93rd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly, bringing together senior police and security officials from the world's major powers.

Some of these senior officials include the host, Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST, for its acronym in French), Holger Münch, head of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, and Laurent Núñez, French Minister of the Interior, who reinforced the existing ties between these nations of great international importance, namely Morocco, Germany and France.

‘I would like to highlight the excellent cooperation that has existed between our two countries for years and which continues to develop,’ said Münch after discussions with Abdellatif Hammouchi. ‘We are very grateful for and value this cooperation,’ said Münch, adding that the Moroccan security services are ‘very efficient’.

The head of the German Criminal Police pointed out that Morocco and Germany can support each other in the area of security cooperation, as they have been doing for years with other countries, and that the INTERPOL General Assembly has been the perfect framework for continuing to weave this network of cooperation and collaboration between powers to preserve international security at all levels.

For his part, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez also highlighted the excellent cooperation between France and Morocco in the areas of security and the fight against crime.

Laurent Nuñez also met with Abdellatif Hammouchi and Abdelaoui Laftit, Morocco's Minister of the Interior, within the framework of the INTERPOL General Assembly and noted that ‘Morocco and France maintain excellent cooperation in the field of security, particularly in the fight against terrorism and organised crime’. In addition, the two countries have recognised the importance of continuing to maintain a high level of cooperation on security and the fight against cross-border crime.

Morocco's important role in security

The INTERPOL General Assembly is the largest gathering on security and policing and provides an unrivalled framework for networking and developing common security policies.

The 93rd session, held in Marrakesh, welcomed more than 800 delegates from 179 countries, including 82 security directors, to address security issues and, in particular, the identification and dismantling of transnational organised crime, the fight against transnational fraud centres, the strengthening of INTERPOL's global policing capabilities and the enhancement of the role of women in police forces.

By hosting the INTERPOL General Assembly, Morocco is demonstrating its leading position as a strategic ally in security and the fight against transnational crime and terrorism. It is demonstrating its strong links with major powers in cooperating to preserve global security and combat cross-border crime and transnational terrorism.

INTERPOL is a very important entity in this field. It is an intergovernmental organisation with 196 member countries that helps the police forces of these countries to collaborate with each other to make the world a safer place by facilitating the exchange of and access to information on crimes and criminals and by offering technical and operational support.
