Hammouchi reinforces the Morocco-Spain cooperation model as a benchmark in regional security

Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of Morocco's General Directorate of National Security and General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), received Luis Baliz Piñero, the new head of intelligence of the Spanish Civil Guard, in Rabat.
During the meeting, both outlined the guidelines to be followed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organised crime.
They also focused on the need to act jointly and in a coordinated manner against the threats they share in the Sahel, the site of one in three terrorist attacks worldwide.
In this context, the Directorate General of National Security and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance issued a statement highlighting the importance of the visit.

‘It is very significant, as it is the first time that this senior Spanish security official has made an international trip since taking office,’ the official statement reads. ‘Choosing the Kingdom of Morocco as the first destination underlines the strength of bilateral strategic cooperation,’ the statement concludes.
This meeting highlights the need for collaboration between Morocco and Spain in the area of security, as it serves as an effective and consistent model of joint work in the fight against terrorism, extremism and illegal migration. It also demonstrates the belief of both nations in the importance of coordinating and anticipating actions in the face of various threats and risks.

According to both teams, the aim of the meeting is to continue improving the working mechanisms between the two security forces, especially in view of the challenge posed by the co-organisation of the 2030 World Cup, the most important event in the world.
The Moroccan and Spanish administrations, together with the Portuguese administration, want the event to be held in a completely safe environment. To this end, Hammouchi and Piñero emphasised the importance of anticipation.
