Iran says Trump will face same fate as Saddam Hussein
The Iranian President, Hassan Rohani, said on Wednesday that the US President, Donald Trump, will have a similar fate to the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who started a war against Iran.
"Trump's fate is not going to look much better than that of Saddam, Saddam and Trump were two madmen who imposed military and economic warfare on the nation of Iran," Rohaní said during the weekly Cabinet meeting, the official website of the Presidency reported.
Rohaní said that Trump, in his confrontation with Iran aimed at overthrowing the system of the Islamic Republic, failed, as did Saddam Hussein in his military war against the Persian country, which took place between 1980 and 1988.
"We had two crazy creatures in history who imposed war on the people. One was Saddam and the other was Trump," he continued. "Saddam imposed military war and Trump imposed economic war on us." "We were united during the war and defeated Saddam," the president continued. "We also witnessed the day when that madman was executed." Turning to Trump, Rouhani said: "We did not let this economic war reach its goal."
In 2018, the outgoing US president, Donald Trump, withdrew his country from the nuclear agreement reached in 2015 between Iran and the six major world powers and imposed harsh sanctions against the Persian country. Iran is experiencing a serious economic crisis as a result of these sanctions, which have had a strong influence on people's lives.
The development of the COVID-19 vaccine has now become a challenge for the Iranian authorities, and with over 54,000 deaths and one million people infected, it is the country most affected by the Middle East pandemic.
In his speech on this day, Rohaní tried to reassure citizens, to whom he promised that everyone would have access to the vaccine.
"With respect to COVID-19, we have no concern for the future, neither for the development nor for the production of the vaccine," said Rohaní, and he assured that "the Central Bank and the Ministry of Health are making every effort to purchase the vaccine produced abroad".
This week the Iranian vaccine entered the human testing phase and is expected to start mass production at the end of June 2021.
