In the Iranian year 1403 (March 2024 – March 2025) 1,153 executions were carried out in 94 prisons, marking a 42% increase compared to 1402 (March 2023 – March 2024).

961 of these executions (83%) were carried out during the term of office of the new Iranian president Massoud Pezeshkian.

Among the victims were 38 women and 7 juvenile offenders, and 7 executions were carried out in public with extreme brutality.

Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), declared that, for the last 45 years, the religious dictatorship ruling Iran has based itself on torture and internal executions, while exporting war and terrorism abroad. Now, after suffering irreparable setbacks in the region and facing the growing threat of uprisings and overthrow, the regime has intensified its brutal executions and massacres.

She called on the Iranian people, especially the youth, to rise up against these executions and actively support the ‘Stop the Executions’ movement.

Mrs Rajavi emphasised that inaction against the ‘godfather of executions, terrorism and warmongering’ not only constitutes a betrayal of fundamental human rights, but also a serious threat to regional and international peace.

She urged the international community to make any agreement with the regime conditional on the cessation of torture and executions, to refer Iran's human rights record to the UN Security Council and to bring Ali Khamenei and other leaders of the regime to justice for crimes against humanity and genocide, as requested by the UN Special Rapporteur in his report of July 2024.
