Irene Lozano, new director of Casa Árabe
Casa Árabe's Governing Council has approved this Friday without any vote against the appointment of the hitherto Socialist deputy in the Assembly of Madrid Irene Lozano as the new director of the institution, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This will be the fourth public post she has held in just over three years. The new director of Casa Árabe, a writer and journalist, holds a degree in Linguistics from the Complutense University of Madrid and a degree in Philosophy from Birkbeck College, University of London.
She has been Secretary of State for Global Spain (2018-2020) and president of the Superior Council of Sports (2020-2021), as well as a member of Congress (2011-2015 and 2016) and more recently in the Assembly of Madrid. Lozano was number 5 on the PSOE list headed by Ángel Gabilondo, which she joined in March, thus ending her time as president of the Higher Sports Council.
Casa Árabe is an institutional consortium created in July 2006 through a collaboration agreement signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Autonomous Community of Madrid, the City Council of Madrid and the City Council of Cordoba.
