Israel intensifies offensive in Gaza
The Israeli army continues to besiege the Gaza Strip with bombings and attacks in its mission to harass Hamas.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) bombed two towers in Gaza City in the last few hours, shortly after issuing immediate evacuation orders for the northern city of the Gaza Strip.
These evacuation orders have triggered a wave of displacement towards the south of the Strip, further complicating the situation of the affected Palestinian population.
Palestinian officials said that the Israeli Armed Forces destroyed more than 30 residential buildings in Gaza City, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes, according to Reuters news agency.
Meanwhile, the head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that 10 of the agency's buildings in Gaza City were bombed by Israel in just four days, adding that ‘there is no safe place’ in the Strip.

Philippe Lazzarini said on social media that this includes ‘seven schools and two clinics currently being used as shelters for thousands of displaced Palestinians’. Lazzarini said that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) was forced to close a clinic in Beach Camp, one of the largest refugee camps in Gaza, and that ‘vital water and sanitation services are now operating at only half capacity.’
In addition, Al-Jazeera reported that one of the Israeli bombings had hit a tent where displaced persons were taking refuge.
All this comes after Israeli bombings on Doha, the capital of Qatar, which targeted Hamas leaders who are members of the negotiating team conducting peace talks to reach a truce in the Gaza Strip, as part of the military operation launched against the Palestinian extremist group that began after the terrible attacks on 7 October 2023 by Hamas members against Israeli territory, which left more than 1,200 dead and 250 people kidnapped.
This military operation sparked the current war in Gaza, which has already left tens of thousands of victims in Gazan territory, drawing condemnation from much of the international community.
In response to recent events, an Arab-Islamic summit was convened in Doha to condemn the aggression against the Palestinian population and denounce the international community's inaction in the face of Israeli belligerence. An important meeting was also scheduled between Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a meeting that could be interpreted as a show of support by the United States for the Israeli government, which has recently been criticised for its excessive aggression against the Palestinian people. In this regard, Benjamin Netanyahu himself stressed that ‘the alliance between Israel and the United States has never been as strong and solid as it is now’.
