The Spanish Civil Guard, together with the Moroccan Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), has dismantled a jihadist cell responsible for indoctrination via the internet, according to Rue20

In total, seven people have been arrested in three simultaneous operations in Toledo, Pontevedra and Madrid; two of those arrested have been sent to provisional prison, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The investigation, which began based on information provided by the Moroccan DGST, focused on a group of individuals in an advanced process of radicalisation.

In Toledo, three people were arrested, including a minor. One of those arrested wielded considerable influence in his circle, spreading jihadist ideology that was subsequently replicated by his followers on the internet.

The material seized included videos of Daesh executions, with a specific focus on suicide attacks in conflict zones.

Simultaneously, two operations were carried out in Pontevedra and Madrid. Those detained in these provinces used social networks, some with tens of thousands of followers, to spread jihadist propaganda hidden among physical training videos, such as calisthenics and self-defence.

They used slogans and nasheeds (religious chants) with a strong indoctrinating content, accompanied by official Daesh multimedia material. In these two operations, Europol provided analytical support.

The authorities have emphasised the dangerousness of the detainees and the crucial importance of international collaboration in the fight against jihadist terrorism. The arrests seek to eradicate the various forms of radicalisation identified, as well as to prevent new victims.
