The monarch stressed that these alliances play a key role in strengthening regional cooperation and offer concerted solutions to common challenges

On the occasion of the 9th Conference of Spanish Ambassadors, the King of Spain, Felipe VI, stressed the special nature of relations with Morocco, and called for these relations to be ‘further strengthened’ within a framework of friendship and good neighbourliness.

‘We will continue to advance our bilateral agenda with Morocco, a country with which we must continue our collaboration in the spirit of friendship and cooperation that governs our special neighbourly relations,’ said Felipe VI.

The sovereign also stressed the importance of strategic alliances in Spanish foreign policy, in forums such as the 5+5 dialogue, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and in the transatlantic sphere.

‘Relations with the Maghreb countries will continue to be key. We are aware of the challenges facing the region, and we want to remain committed to finding solutions. Hence the energy we have invested in focusing the attention of our partners and allies on this Neighbourhood or Southern Flank,’ he said.

He also stressed the need to consolidate cooperation with the African continent, welcoming in this regard the new Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028, which he described as a clear road map in this area.

‘Africa is, and will continue to be, a region of great challenges, vital for the security and stability of Europeans. Maritime security, the fight against terrorism, humanitarian aid, migration and development cooperation must continue to be on our African agenda. We must support positive African processes, virtuous circles of democracy and prosperity: the new Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028 sets out a clear roadmap for the future and raises the ambition and profile of our country on the continent,’ he added.
