Libya and Belarus forge a strategic alliance for mutual development

Libya's interest in strengthening cooperation with Belarus was evident in the recent visit of Field Marshal and Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar to Minsk. During his meeting with the Belarusian president, Aleksandr Lukashenko, Haftar expressed his desire to establish a strategic partnership that would benefit both countries. 

In welcoming the Libyan leader, Lukashenko emphasised Belarus' willingness to collaborate with Libya in various areas. 'We are well aware of the situation in Libya and we are willing to help in any way we can,' said the Belarusian president. 

For his part, Haftar expressed his admiration for Belarus' development and stability, despite the tensions it has faced. 'Belarus has achieved a high level of technological development, producing modern equipment in key sectors such as industry and agriculture,' he said. He also reaffirmed his intention to establish solid cooperation: 'We are very interested in building a strategic partnership with your country, Mr President'. 

Cooperation and economic development projects 

Haftar's trip to Belarus also included meetings with senior officials, including the Belarusian Prime Minister, Roman Golovchenko. During their meeting, Golovchenko said that Belarus is willing to implement joint projects in key sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture. ‘Despite the difficult situation in your region, we appreciate that you have found the time to visit us. Belarus and Libya have been friends and partners for many years, and we are determined to fulfil the agreements reached with President Lukashenko,' he said. 

The Belarusian Prime Minister highlighted opportunities for cooperation in areas such as food security, industry, construction, geological exploration and education. 'Belarus is a reliable partner that can help Libya implement its ambitious development plans,' he said. 

Prospects for bilateral cooperation 

The visit of Khalifa Haftar represents a significant step in the consolidation of relations between Libya and Belarus. Both nations have expressed their interest in strengthening their cooperation in humanitarian, social and economic spheres, which could translate into concrete projects that benefit their respective economies and populations. 

With the political will expressed by both parties and the identification of strategic sectors for collaboration, a new stage in bilateral relations is beginning, marked by a mutual commitment to move towards solid and sustainable cooperation.
