Marrakech equips itself with a smart control room to reinforce security in Jamaâ El-Fna Square
In an initiative that confirms the General Directorate of National Security's (DGSN) commitment to modernising its infrastructure and optimising the protection of citizens and visitors, Marrakech has inaugurated an advanced control room dedicated to managing the video surveillance system in Jamaâ El-Fna Square and throughout the medina.
This initiative is part of the ongoing major security projects undertaken to improve operational efficiency and ensure the safety of one of the most frequented areas in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The new room is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including fourteen high-resolution wall screens, ten real-time monitoring stations, and administrative and technical spaces that allow for optimal management of the entire system. These facilities offer comprehensive and accurate surveillance of the flow of people and vehicles in the city's most sensitive historical and tourist areas.
This infrastructure monitors a network of 262 cameras strategically distributed in the narrow streets, main access points, souks and key locations surrounding Jamaâ El-Fna. The system includes, in particular, Speed Dome cameras, high-definition fixed cameras, facial recognition systems and specialised equipment for automatic number plate recognition, enabling enhanced surveillance and intelligent monitoring of urban movements.
This project fully embodies the modern vision adopted by the DGSN, which focuses on integrating advanced technologies into security management, strengthening governance in sensitive areas and continuously improving police intervention.
Thanks to this control room, Marrakech has an additional strategic tool to consolidate its urban security model and preserve its status as a global destination appreciated by millions of visitors each year.
