The King of Morocco, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, chaired, Friday afternoon in Rabat, the opening of the first session of the fourth legislative year of the 11th Parliament

Mohammed VI takes a step forward to consolidate the territorial integrity of Morocco with the Sahara under its sovereignty at the international level and calls on member countries of the UN Security Council such as France and the United States, and Spain, a friendly country well aware of the hidden dynamics of the Sahara question, as well as brotherly Arab and African countries, to support the efforts at the international level for the resolution of the conflict.

He stresses that the Alawi monarch asks all Moroccans to continue their efforts, mobilization and vigilance, with greater coordination of institutions, to defend in all possible areas the justice of the cause of the southern provinces and thwart the maneuvers of the adversaries.

Mohammed VI is aware of the great achievements made in recent years with a positive evolution within the United Nations in favoring the rule of law and legitimacy by recognizing Morocco's historical rights.

It is very significant that Mohamed VI publicly relies on three key countries for the resolution of the conflict in the United Nations, namely the United States, France and Spain.

On his arrival at the seat of Parliament, the King saluted the national colors to the sound of the national anthem, before reviewing a detachment of the Royal Guard that rendered the honors.

Before entering the official tribune, Mohammed VI waved from the balcony of the Parliament to the crowd gathered in the adjacent streets and delivered a speech to the members of the two Houses of Parliament, in which the Sovereign referred to the latest developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue, “considered by all Moroccans as their first national cause”.

He welcomed, on this occasion, the position of the French Republic, which supports the sovereignty of Morocco over the whole territory of the Sahara and which supports the autonomy initiative within the framework of the territorial integrity of Morocco, as the only basis for resolving this artificial regional conflict.

This positive development, which privileges the rule of law and legitimacy through the recognition of Morocco's historical rights, is supported by a major country, which has the status of a permanent member of the Security Council and is recognized as an influential player on the international scene”, the Sovereign declared.

He supported the efforts made within the framework of the United Nations to lay the foundations of a political process that should lead to a definitive settlement of this issue within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, he continued.

The Sovereign also welcomed the recognition of influential countries, which are also permanent members of the Security Council, such as the United States of America and France, as well as the position of friendly Spain, which is well aware of the hidden motives of this issue, and whose position has strong political and historical resonances.

“The same can be said of most of the countries of the European Union,” the monarch maintained. “We are also proud of the positions of brotherly Arab and African countries, which support the territorial integrity of the Kingdom in a very clear and responsible manner, in particular those that have opened consulates in Laayoune and Dakhla,” he added.

The King took the opportunity to affirm that “the next stage requires us all to strengthen our mobilization and vigilance to consolidate in a lasting way the position of our country, and it is important to continue to advocate the justice of our cause and thwart the maneuvers of our adversaries”.

In this regard, it is necessary to explain the foundations of Morocco's position to the small number of countries that continue to go against the logic of law and deny the facts of history, Mohammed VI pointed out, stressing that it is necessary, at the same time, to strive to convince them of the legitimacy of the Moroccan Sahara with numerous legal, political, historical and spiritual proofs and arguments.

This approach requires the pooling of the efforts of all the official, partisan and civil national institutions and bodies, and reinforcing their coordination, to give the necessary effectiveness to their action and their mobilizations, he specified.

He urged the two Houses of Parliament to coordinate more closely in this regard, creating appropriate internal structures with qualified profiles and applying the criteria of competence and specialization in the choice of delegations, both for bilateral meetings and for participation in regional and international forums.

The sovereign reaffirmed that “Morocco will remain firm in its position and faithful to the spirit of openness to its Maghreb and regional environment, thus contributing to the common development of the peoples of the region, as well as to their security and stability”.
