Mohamed VI no recibe a Sánchez y le emplaza a una nueva visita
Mohammed VI will not finally receive Sánchez in the framework of the High Level Meeting between the two countries. The King of Morocco has instead held a telephone conversation with the Spanish President of the Government hours before the start of the twelfth bilateral summit of this level, the first of its kind to be held in eight years. This was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon by the Moroccan Royal Cabinet and La Moncloa in separate communiqués.
The Alawi monarch called on Sánchez to make an official visit to Morocco soon "in order to reinforce this positive dynamic in the excellent bilateral strategic partnership", MAP agency reports. La Moncloa, for its part, has confirmed that the Spanish President has accepted the invitation and will return to Rabat in the coming weeks.
In principle, and although it did not appear in the programme detailed by the parties, it was planned that Mohammed VI would grant Sánchez a royal audience similar to the one they held in April last year, when Sánchez travelled to Rabat to confirm Spain's new position on the Western Sahara issue and the beginning of a new stage in their bilateral relations.
In the conversation, which took place hours before Sánchez and 12 of his ministers travelled to Rabat, and which lasted approximately 30 minutes, they agreed to "continue to promote the relationship between the two countries" and agreed that the High Level Meeting would be a "success". The Moroccan Royal Cabinet stressed "the evolution, trust and mutual respect of the new phase of the bilateral partnership" launched since the last meeting between Sánchez and King Mohammed VI.
