Mohamed VI podría acudir a la cumbre de la Liga Árabe en Argel
Morocco's King Mohammed VI will be present in Algiers on 1 and 2 November, according to reliable Algerian diplomatic sources, according to Jeune Afrique.
The Moroccan monarch will attend the 31st Arab League summit in Algeria in the midst of a bilateral crisis with his Maghreb neighbour, which decided to break off relations with Morocco in August 2021 through its foreign minister, Ramtane Lamamra.
It would be the first time that Mohammed VI has visited Algeria since March 2005, also in the framework of the Arab League summit. This time, however, the Moroccan king would be accompanied by his son, Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, according to Jeune Afrique.
Neither the Moroccan government nor the Moroccan Royal Court have commented on the matter. For the moment, there have been no denials, nor were there any a month ago when the same media outlet launched the exclusive.
At the end of September, the Algerian Minister of Justice, Abderrachid Tabi, visited Rabat to deliver the invitation to the summit of the Executive headed by Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the head of Moroccan diplomacy, Nasser Bourita. The Moroccan government accepted the letter and confirmed its attendance, but did not say who would represent the Kingdom.
This was the first official visit by a high-ranking Algerian official to Morocco in at least a year, but the meeting was confined to a protocolary setting, so a de-escalation of tensions between the two was not expected.
