Mohammed VI considers just and far-sighted the decision of Israel to recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over the Sahara and to open a consulate in Dakhla
King Mohammed VI has sent a message to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the Monarch affirms that the "important" decision of the State of Israel to recognize the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara and to consider favorably the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla is "both just and far-sighted".
"Mr. Prime Minister, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for your letter informing me of the decision of the State of Israel to recognize the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its Sahara and to consider favorably the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla," His Majesty the King states in the message, adding that this decision "has been warmly welcomed by the Moroccan people and its living forces."
Mohammed VI affirms that the question of the Moroccan Sahara is "the national cause of the Kingdom and the priority of its foreign policy," adding that "the important decision you have taken is just and far-sighted."
"It is just, insofar as it confirms Morocco's authentic legal titles and its irrefutable historical rights over its Saharawi provinces," the Sovereign points out, adding that "the effective jurisdiction of the Moroccan State and the legal ties of loyalty that have always existed, since time immemorial, between the Kings of Morocco and the Moroccan populations of these lands dear to Your hearts, are proven and indisputable."
"His decision is also far-sighted. For it is part of the irreversible international dynamics which sees numerous countries, from all regions of the world, favoring a definitive political solution to this anachronistic regional dispute, on the basis of the Moroccan initiative for the autonomy of the Sahara region and within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom", continues the Moroccan Monarch.
The Sovereign also recalls that, since December 2020, bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel have not ceased to strengthen in all fields.
"The momentum they are experiencing is unprecedented, both in terms of exchanges of visits by officials and businessmen, and in terms of developing the conventional framework, diversifying cooperation and strengthening trade exchanges," the King notes, expressing his joy that the deep human ties that exist between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel - particularly through the Jewish community originating in Morocco - are playing a catalytic role.
The Sovereign expresses his confidence that the clear position taken by Mr. Netanyahu, on behalf of the State of Israel, regarding the Moroccanness of the Sahara, "may further strengthen the ties between Morocco and Israel," assuring him of his firm and continued commitment.
"As I indicated to you during our telephone conversation on December 25, 2020, you are most welcome to visit Morocco, on dates to be defined through diplomatic channels, according to our mutual convenience," the King stresses in the message.
In this context, Mohammed VI affirms that this meeting "will open new possibilities for bilateral relations between Morocco and Israel" and "will also be an opportunity to promote the prospects of peace for all the peoples of the region, taking into account the content of the Tripartite Declaration signed on December 22, 2020 between the Kingdom of Morocco, the United States of America and the State of Israel, including the principles that should guide the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
