El Ministerio del Interior de Marruecos condena los ataques contra las instituciones de Seguridad Nacional

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior yesterday "categorically" denounced the irresponsible statements made to the national security institutions, warning that it reserved the right to seek justice.

In a press release, the ministry said that some people had recently used social networks and certain electronic sites to undermine national security institutions by publishing complaints aimed at deceiving national public opinion, damaging the image of these institutions, underestimating their actions and questioning their performance.

This is apparently a response to the Moroccan politician Mohammed Ziane who had recently made a number of comments against the national security institutions. On 25 November the Moroccan Liberal Party (PLM) called for the dissolution of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) and the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).  Ziane also accused the DGST on Sunday of leaking an inappropriate video of him with a woman.

For its part, the Ministry has defended Morocco's national security institutions against "irresponsible statements" and expressed its surprise that they come from "people who are supposed to have a minimum of responsibility and integrity". Furthermore, the Ministry of the Interior warned that it reserves the right to seek justice against people who undermine Morocco's national security institutions on social networks.

"The action of all the components of the Ministry remains governed by the constitutional provisions, international charters and legal texts, with the main objective of serving the general interest of citizens, in particular the respect of their rights and freedoms, which undoubtedly represents proof of the democratic choice made by the Kingdom of Morocco and based on the obligation of all to adhere to the principles of the rule of law, whether in the framework of the exercise of rights or the respect of duties".

"Our country's judicial institutions are in a position to guarantee all individual and collective rights and freedoms, together with the constitutional institutions to which the legislator has entrusted the mission of preserving citizens' rights, in their relationship with the administration and the consolidation of the principles of justice and equity, rather than persisting in this systematic campaign which lacks the spirit of responsibility and objectivity and underestimates the progress and achievements recognised at national and international level," he added.
