El Parlamento de Marruecos resolverá todos los proyectos de ley pendientes antes de fin de año
Naam Miyara, the new president of Morocco's House of Councillors, has announced on a national television channel that the Alawi Parliament will resolve all pending bills before the end of the year. Miyara stressed that this decision aims to open a new legislative year "based on accelerating the pace of legislation and improving it".
The representative of the Upper House informed about this measure after agreeing with the heads of the committees to resolve all these pending laws, either by approval or rejection. Miyara pointed out that there are almost 21 legal texts pending in the various committees of the parliament, most of which belong to the previous government headed by Saadeddine al-Othmani.
Miyara also affirmed that his body will work next year on several activities of general interest among the Moroccan population. The Chamber of Councillors will develop the 'Social Justice Forum', the 'Forum of Regions', the 'Business Forum' and the 'Business Climate in Morocco', among others, reports Al-Ain.
"The Chamber will focus on organising more than 12 days, with the aim of enriching dialogue within the institution and contributing to changing its stereotypical image," Miyara said. He also explained that the body should have another function, in addition to that related to legislation and control of the work of the Government and public policies, it should become "a platform for the intellectual and strategic expansion of the Kingdom", as well as a place for dialogue to "deliberate real issues of concern to citizens".
Miyara also assured that he is working with Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the House of Representatives, with the aim of fostering close coordination between the two chambers of Parliament, as requested by Morocco's King Mohammed VI.
Naam Miyara was elected president of the Chamber of Councillors in early October. According to the Moroccan news portal, Map News, Miyara was the only candidate for the presidency of the body, winning 86 votes against 6 invalid votes and 4 blank votes. Miyara belongs to the General Union of Moroccan Workers (UGTM), a party that won six seats in the last elections.
Shortly after his election, Miyara stressed that his objective as president of the Upper House was to create a "space for constructive debate, far removed from any political considerations and in full respect of the rights of all its members". The Alawite monarch, Mohammed VI, congratulated Miyara after his election, highlighting his role "in the service of the general interest and in defence of the just causes of the nation".
The President of the Upper House also revealed his firm commitment to promoting cooperation between Morocco and the European Union so that this partnership will allow "an exchange of experiences and the adoption of recommendations", reports Le Matin.
