Morocco and France cooperate on security in the run-up to the Olympics
French authorities have asked the head of the Moroccan police and intelligence services, Abdellatif Hammouchi, for help in ensuring security for the Paris Olympics, scheduled for the summer of 2024, for fear of a repeat of "tragic security events in the past", as reported by Jeune Afrique.
In the past, security cooperation between France and Morocco has already helped track down the Daesh terrorist responsible for an attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris in January 2015 that left several people dead.
In addition to the 2024 Olympic Games, the Moroccan and French security officials also focused on the fight against drug trafficking, illegal immigration and terrorism, at the request of the head of the French national police.
All these issues were discussed during a meeting in Rabat last December between Abdellatif Hammouchi and Nicolas Lerner, director general of French internal security. This meeting was an opportunity to assess security and intelligence cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic.
However, the talks focused in particular on the Olympic Games and the mechanisms for implementing joint operations related to the security of the event on the basis of mutual trust and common interest, according to Moroccan media.
Rabat has experience in this field, as the Moroccan National Security, known for its professionalism worldwide, already demonstrated its ability and capacity at the World Cup in Qatar.
