Morocco and Spain reinforce anti-terrorist cooperation
This visit is of paramount importance given that the newly appointed Spanish Commissioner General of Information has chosen Morocco for his first visit abroad with the aim of promoting bilateral cooperation relations in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism, said a statement from the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance.
On this occasion, Hammouchi and his Spanish counterpart held intensive talks focused on the assessment of terrorist risks and threats in the different hotspots around the world, particularly in the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as on the valorization and strengthening of the operations carried out jointly for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
The two sides reviewed the role that the DGST services can play in the joint efforts on the occasion of the 2030 World Cup, jointly organized by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, in particular the aspect of criminal intelligence, proactivity and neutralization of all dangers to public safety.
During these talks, the Spanish Commissioner General of Information stressed the high level of cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco, stating that Spain was able to save itself from dangerous terrorist attacks thanks to the decisive and highly reliable information provided by the DGST services.
The Spanish official also expressed his country's desire to continue to take advantage of the DGST's support in dealing with terrorism, especially in a global context marked by growing and complex security challenges. He also insisted on the importance of reinforcing joint operations and simultaneous arrests, carried out by the security services of both countries in radicalized environments in both Morocco and Spain.
The talks between the two sides have been marked by the convergence of views on the importance of consolidating and intensifying common security cooperation mechanisms in various fields, including the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, to jointly address the risks looming over the security of the two neighboring countries, the communiqué concludes.
This visit illustrates the advanced stage of the security partnership between Morocco and Spain, just as it reveals the growing demand for the Moroccan security model in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
