Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Foreign Minister, has been at the centre of diplomatic activity at the helm of the Arab League's Council of Foreign Ministers. Bourita participated in the Arab-Japanese ministerial dialogue, where the strengthening of bilateral ties with Bahrain was discussed in two separate meetings in Cairo.

Minister Bourita and Abdullahi Bin Rashid al-Zayani, his Bahraini counterpart, expressed satisfaction with the talks between the two, which took place in the context of the existing close cooperation between Rabat and Manama.

According to Bourita, the leadership of both King Mohammed VI of Morocco and King Hamad Bin Issa al-Khalifa of Bahrain is largely to blame for the close ties between the two countries. The Moroccan diplomatic chief and his counterpart, Al-Zayani, reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening these ties, coordinating their actions with common aspirations. The ministers decided to continue implementing the conclusions of the fifth session of the Joint High Commission as part of their agenda, which was held in Bahrain's capital, Manama, in early 2023.

In addition, they agreed to intensify political coordination and consultations ahead of upcoming occasions, such as the 33rd Arab Summit to be hosted by the Bahraini state in March 2024. As discussions progress, they plan to expand on issues of regional and global concern, and both nations highlighted their consonant positions on these issues.

Morocco joins Morocco-Japan dialogue

Bourita led a large Moroccan delegation that made sure to underline the importance of the North African nation in regional affairs at the third session of the Arab-Japanese ministerial dialogue.

Morocco was represented at this session by a delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and comprising the Kingdom's Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ahmed Tazi, the Ministry's Director of the East, Gulf and Arab and Islamic Organisations, Fouad Akhrif, the Ministry's Director of Asian Affairs and Oceania, Abdelkader El Ansari, and the Director of Protocol, Anas Khales.

The Arab-Japanese Ministerial Dialogue, which was initiated as a result of the cooperation agreement signed by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Arab League in September 2013, provides a forum for political cooperation and consultation between the two sides at the foreign relations level.

The delegates' discussions focused particularly on strengthening coordination and exchange of views on regional and global issues of common interest in the political and economic spheres.
