Morocco is thoroughly implementing structural reforms to move towards inclusive and sustainable development under the reign of Mohammed VI, according to Aziz Akhannouch, head of the Moroccan government.

Aziz Akhannouch made this point during the 4th United Nations International Conference on Financing for Development, held in the Spanish city of Seville.

Since King Mohammed VI ascended to the throne in 1999, Morocco has been seeking maximum development for the country at all levels, including economic and social, promoting inclusion and sustainability to benefit the entire population.

The reforms implemented by the Moroccan kingdom in very important areas such as social protection, compulsory health insurance, housing, education and health reflect the national intention to improve the living conditions of citizens and lay the foundations for inclusive and sustainable development, as explained by the Moroccan head of government in his speech at the 4th UN International Conference on Financing for Development.

The head of government pointed out that mechanisms have been put in place to raise the necessary funds to implement the reforms outlined, such as a significant broadening of the tax base to raise more money through taxation, a more effective fight against tax evasion and a more development-friendly tax environment.

However, despite these sources of funding, additional resources are still needed to continue implementing reforms aimed at improving social inclusiveness and sustainability.

Aziz Akhannouch also pointed to good international cooperation in obtaining funding from abroad, either through traditional, well-established institutions or through new economic and social actors. On the external front, Morocco has been doing great diplomatic work in recent years and cooperation with international institutions and important countries on the international stage is total thanks to the good diplomacy developed by the Moroccan kingdom. In this vein, development cooperation is proving to be of great help to Morocco's progress.

Proof of this is the significant presence of the North African country at the 4th UN International Conference on Financing for Development organised in Seville. This conference focused on financing for development, a very important tool for development, especially given the turbulent times we are currently experiencing with significant geopolitical challenges.

The Moroccan head of government also stated that, as a middle-income country, Morocco aspires to contribute to the definition of new approaches to financing at the global level, capable of ensuring equitable and sustainable growth.
