MSP again urges UN to stop ‘death parade’ in Western Sahara

The first secretary of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP), Hach Ahmed Bericalla, has again drawn the attention of the United Nations (UN) Secretary General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to the loss of human lives in the war in Western Sahara.
Hach Ahmed Bericalla sent a letter to De Mistura commenting again on the cases of deaths in the Saharawi conflict. On this occasion, two young men and an elderly person belonging to Polisario Front units lost their lives in an exchange of attacks that ended with the impact of a Moroccan army drone this week in the region of Hausa.
The first secretary of the MSP asked the UN envoy for Western Sahara to intensify his efforts and exert all his influence in order to stop this ‘parade of death’ which has been going on for more than four years in a territory where, in theory, a cease-fire is in force and a UN peace mission is operating.
Hach Ahmed Bericalla's letter to Staffan de Mistura is reproduced below:
Mr. Staffan de Mistura
Personal Representative of the
Secretary-General of the UN.
Dear Mr. UN Envoy,
I am writing to you once again with deep sadness to inform you that numerous Sahrawi families have suffered the loss of their loved ones in the ongoing war in Western Sahara, despite the ceasefire decreed by the UN and monitored by MINURSO.
On this occasion, two young people and an elderly person who belonged to units of the Polisario Front. They are:
- El Ouafi Tifariti
- Bouibou Nayem
- Selamou Bombari.
Unfortunately, it also appears that other people were wounded during the same attack.
I take advantage of this tragic situation, especially for the mothers, children and wives of the victims, to urge you to step up your efforts and exert all your influence in order to stop this ‘parade of death’ that we have been witnessing for more than four years in a territory where, in theory, a cease-fire is in place and a UN peace mission is operating.
It is imperative, Mr De Mistura, to put an end to this situation and prevent more families from suffering the same pain as those who are currently mourning their loved ones. I strongly urge you to make a final effort to re-enforce the ceasefire to avoid further unnecessary loss of life, which will in no way contribute to altering the balance of power or bring us closer to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, which is the fundamental purpose of your mission and commitment, as well as of the ceasefire monitoring by the Blue Helmets in Western Sahara.
Yours sincerely
Hach Ahmed
First Secretary of the MSP.
