Palestinian militias in Gaza today launched more than 270 rockets towards Israel, a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry told EFE, in the context of a major escalation of violence that began yesterday with heavy army bombardment of the Strip and which has already left 20 Palestinians dead.

The attack is the largest so far this year and follows more than 24 hours of high tension in the area after Israel assassinated three senior members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) group in Gaza yesterday.

The Israeli bombardment, which continued on Wednesday, has so far left 20 people dead, including at least 11 civilians, several of them children, and more than 40 wounded.
