Rabat recalca su elogio al apoyo de España a la propuesta de autonomía en el Sáhara
The Moroccan government on Thursday once again praised "highly" Spain's support for its proposal for autonomy in Western Sahara, which will allow the design of a "clear and ambitious" road map for the bilateral partnership, the government spokesman, Mustafa Baitas, said today.
"The government highly commends the positive positions and constructive commitments of the Spanish government regarding the cause of the Moroccan Sahara, expressed in the letter of the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez" to King Mohamed VI, Baitas added at the press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting.
Last Friday, Morocco released a letter from Sanchez in which he expresses his support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal as the "most serious, credible and realistic" solution to the Western Sahara conflict.
The Moroccan spokesman stressed today that this letter "makes it possible to establish a clear and ambitious roadmap to adhere, in a lasting way, to a bilateral partnership with neighbouring Spain".
Baitas did not respond to questions from journalists on whether Morocco will allow the opening of the land border crossings with Ceuta and Melilla and the resumption of the maritime connection between the two countries.
Last Friday, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Spain's new position with the same words and announced the visit to Rabat of the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, scheduled for 1 April, and that of Sánchez, at a later date.
Yesterday, Albares announced in a speech to the Foreign Affairs Committee of Congress that he will agree with his Moroccan counterpart, Naser Burita, on his next visit to Morocco the normalisation of the land, sea and air borders between the countries.
Spain's new position on the Western Sahara conflict ended a diplomatic crisis between the two neighbouring countries that lasted almost a year.
