Russia's Investigative Committee today opened a criminal case over an attack allegedly carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces the day before in the border region of Belgorod, in which an ammunition depot was hit, the Russian Presidential Agency reported today.

The chairman of the committee, Alexandr Bastrikin, "ordered to open a criminal case" over the detonation of an ammunition depot resulting in "deaths and injuries", according to preliminary data, in the village of Oktyabrsky in the Belgorod district, the agency said.

The committee said the Russian air defence system also shot down missiles in the Novooskolski district.

The fragments fell in the area of the railway track and, as a result, power lines were damaged and train traffic was temporarily suspended.

The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladov, reported on his Telegram account the day before that two flats in a building were damaged in the alleged Ukrainian attack.
