Sahrawi Movement for Peace denounces new human rights violations in Tindouf camps

Mahmuda Ment Said had been protesting for days against a measure of the Polisario leaders who had dispossessed her of a piece of land in the area. She had set up for a couple of weeks a "jaima" in front of the Polisario administrative offices in Rabuni.

The Saharawi Movement for Peace (MSP) denounces once again the repressive practices of the Polisario leadership against the Saharawi refugees in what constitutes a systematic violation of the human rights and freedoms of the civilian population concentrated in these places.

According to various sources, the situation of poverty and deprivation, together with the siege and strict control to which the Polisario submits the population are generating a situation increasingly unsustainable and unbreathable atmosphere of a humanitarian crisis about to explode.

The Saharawi Movement for Peace will spare no effort to make respect the most elementary rights of the refugee population in Tindouf by appealing to the UN Secretary General, to his envoy Stefan De Mistura and to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It will also inform and request the intervention of Human Rights Watch and other human rights organizations to call on Algeria to face up to its responsibilities as a host country for the Saharawi refugees.

The MSP reiterates once again its political will to continue to work for a peaceful, honorable and lasting solution to the problem of Western Sahara that definitively closes the cycle of exile of the Saharawi population and returns them to their land in the best conditions of dignity.
