Security cooperation with Morocco ‘was decisive’ in the dismantling of a terrorist cell

Security cooperation between Morocco and Spain ‘was decisive’ in the dismantling of a terrorist cell affiliated to the ‘Daesh’ organisation in the Sahel, made up of nine members, six of whom were active in Madrid, Ibiza and Ceuta, the Directorate General of the Spanish Police indicated today, Tuesday, the Directorate General of the Spanish Police.
‘The collaboration of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), which proceeded to the arrest of three members of this cell in Tetouan and Fnideq, was crucial to the dismantling of this cell,’ the Spanish National Police said in a statement.
Thanks to this security cooperation, the authorities have managed to neutralise ‘a real threat to the security of both countries’, the statement stressed, noting that this cell was composed of strongly radicalised individuals, who adhere to the ideologies of the Daesh terrorist organisation and manifest a willingness to commit violent acts.
Following exhaustive surveillance, the authorities confirmed that these individuals were carrying out ‘belligerent jihadist activities, directly threatening the Western population and the Jewish community and inciting them to commit violent acts’, the Spanish police said.
The investigating judge of the Audiencia Nacional on Monday ordered the arrest of six people detained on Spanish territory, including former detainees in terrorism cases in Spain.
