Spain and Morocco carry out a macro anti-terrorist operation against jihadism
The Spanish National Police and the Moroccan Directorate General of Territorial Security (DGST) have been carrying out a major joint anti-terrorist operation in different parts of Spain and Morocco since 5am this morning.
According to Cadena Ser, the epicentre of the operation is in Ceuta, where four people have been arrested in the Príncipe neighbourhood. Two others have also been arrested in Madrid and Ibiza. On the other hand, the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) has also made three arrests in Moroccan territory, specifically in Tetuan and Fnideq.
As the Spanish media recalls, this is the second anti-terrorist operation against jihadism this week after the arrest of an alleged terrorist in Melilla accused of self-training and terrorist indoctrination.
So far this year, the State Security Forces and Corps have arrested a total of 63 people linked to jihadist terrorism, up from 61 last year.
Most of them have been arrested in the province of Barcelona (14), which continues to be one of the main ‘nests’ of suspects linked to Daesh, according to experts in the fight against terrorism. In the case of Melilla, eight people have been arrested so far this year.
