A Spanish-Israeli citizen was killed in an attack by the Palestinian Islamist organisation Hamas on Israel, the Spanish Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday, expressing "its strongest condemnation of the terrorist attack".

In a statement, the Ministry reported "the death of the Spanish-Israeli citizen Maya Villalobo Sinvany", who, according to the Spanish press, was a young woman who was doing her military service in a barracks near the Gaza Strip.

The acting President of the Government, socialist Pedro Sánchez, declared himself "dismayed by the news", in a message on the social network X - formerly Twitter.

"The Spanish government reiterates its strongest condemnation of Hamas attacks on Israel. Nothing justifies a terrorist attack," Sánchez added.

Villalobo, who was 19 and from Seville, according to the Spanish press, was one of two Spaniards whose fate was unknown after Saturday's Hamas attack.

The other, according to media reports, is a 46-year-old man who lived on a kibbutz (agricultural cooperative) near the Gaza Strip, from where the surprise attack was launched.
