The Consul General of Morocco in Gran Canaria, a cornerstone of Spanish-Moroccan dialogue
At the headquarters of Casa África, and on the occasion of the anniversary of the signing of the Vienna Convention, the consular corps, the Gran Canaria government delegation and rectors of the main universities of the Canary Islands met to analyse the immigration situation.
The event, which had to be postponed due to the death of the Pope and coincided with the appointment of the new pontiff, Pope Leo XIV, highlighted the importance of diplomacy as the essence of dialogue and understanding between countries, especially in times of conflict.
In this context, Fatiha El Kamouri, Moroccan consul in Gran Canaria, stressed that the Vienna Convention ‘is the cornerstone of consular relations that embodies the spirit of dialogue’. The Moroccan consul then reaffirmed that ‘consulates are a reflection of the feelings and attachment of diplomats towards the citizens of our countries’.
This work was honoured by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Canary Islands Government, José Luis Perestelo, and the Deputy Mayor, Inma Medina, who highlighted the work carried out by consulates on behalf of their citizens in this territory and the importance of Gran Canaria within Spain, as it is the city with the most accredited consulates (52), after Madrid and Barcelona.
Finally, Fatiha El Kamouri concluded by praising the difficult and important work of diplomatic missions and the strong emotional commitment they entail. ‘Our work is at the heart of our commitment to serve our fellow citizens abroad, facilitate their procedures and promote values.’
