The Moroccan consulate in Miami achieves high participation in its events

Numerous American citizens in Miami (Florida) participated alongside Moroccans in the events organized by Consul General Chafika El Habti, who expressed her great satisfaction at consolidating and increasing American support for Morocco's positions on the Sahara, as demonstrated by the drafting of Resolution 2797, which was approved on October 31 by the UN Security Council, placing the proposal for autonomy for the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty as the basis for negotiations to achieve a serious, credible, and lasting solution to the conflict.

In this context, the great symbolism and particular significance of the 50th anniversary of the Green March were highlighted in Miami during a conference attended by lawyers, academics, community leaders, and several members of the Moroccan community living in the United States.

During this meeting, organized by the Ajax Miami association in collaboration with the Consulate General of Morocco in Miami, the speakers highlighted the special nature of this anniversary, which coincides with the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara and the decision by King Mohammed VI to declare October 31 of each year a national holiday (Aid Al Wahda) to commemorate this historic milestone.

Among other activities organized by the Consulate General in Miami were an exhibition on the Green March and a motorcycle parade through the main streets of the American city.

During the conference, the Consul General of Morocco in Miami, Chafika El Habti, reviewed the most important historical stages in the process of consolidating the Kingdom's territorial integrity, recalling that hundreds of thousands of Moroccans, under the wise leadership of the late King Hassan II, participated 50 years ago in this peaceful march, which reflects the unwavering attachment of the Moroccan people to their territorial integrity and to the values of peace and solidarity.

“Fifty years after the Green March, Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has invested heavily in its southern provinces, transforming this region into a prosperous land that attracts investment from around the world,” she said.

Chakib Himmich, professor and lecturer in law at Ibn Tofail University in Kenitra, noted that the Moroccan people are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Green March in a context marked by significant diplomatic advances that support and consolidate the Kingdom's sovereignty over its Sahara.

"Fifty years after this peaceful epic, Morocco is signing a strategic diplomatic victory at the United Nations," said Mr. Himmich, who stressed that Resolution 2797, which paves the way for a definitive solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara on the basis of the autonomy initiative, is the result of half a century of wise diplomacy, serenely woven around the principles of sovereignty, development, and peace.

For her part, Rajae Maâchi, a lawyer with the Rabat Bar Association, noted that this diplomatic success is in line with the spirit of the Green March, that of a people united behind their king, moving forward with determination toward the completion of their nation's territorial integrity.

“More than a commemoration, this date symbolizes a turning point in Morocco's contemporary history,” she added, explaining in this context that the UN resolution affirms that autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the only realistic path and the basis for a definitive solution to this artificial dispute.

At the end of this conference, several members of the Moroccan community in Florida expressed their joy and pride at the Security Council's adoption of its historic resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, which they consider to be the result of the wise and far-sighted diplomacy of His Majesty the King.

The Moroccan Consulate in Miami hosts a photo exhibition celebrating the Green March

Throughout the month of November, the Consulate General of Morocco in Miami is hosting an exhibition of historical photographs that traces the most significant stages of the Green March.

Under the slogan “Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Green March: Pride, Unity, and Transmission,” this exhibition presents a series of photographs that recount the different phases of this epic and brilliant national struggle for the peaceful recovery of the southern provinces of the Kingdom and the culmination of territorial integrity.

It also highlights the various humanitarian and social aspects that marked this historic event, which was a crucial turning point in Morocco's contemporary history. The exhibition thus aims to bring visitors, particularly the younger generations of the Moroccan community and Americans, closer to Morocco's history and to raise awareness of the tireless efforts made to promote the development and progress of the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

“This initiative commemorates a foundational historical event and is part of an active effort to pass on our values of patriotism and unity,” Morocco's Consul General in Miami, Chafika El Habti, told MAP.

Transmission is a fundamental factor in “understanding the present and the future,” she said, stressing that the exhibition is intended to be a moment of celebration, but also an opportunity to instill in future generations the dazzling history of the national struggle for independence.

The photographs on display focus in particular on the masses of volunteers who converged from all regions of Morocco to the southern provinces to write, in a patriotic impulse, one of the most beautiful pages in Morocco's struggle to complete its territorial integrity.
