The Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP) has issued an official statement in which it calls for the holding of a Saharawi debate to "reach a consensus on a peaceful and honourable way out of the tragedy suffered by the Saharawis".

The Standing Political Committee of the Movement Saharawi for Peace has analysed the latest developments regarding the situation in Western Sahara "deploring the continued stagnation of the political process undertaken by the UN".

The official statement of the MSP is reproduced below:

The Permanent Political Committee of the MSP calls for the holding of a Saharawi debate to reach a consensus on a peaceful and honourable way out of the tragedy suffered by the Saharawis.

Meeting in ordinary session, the Permanent Political Committee of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP) examined the latest developments in the Western Sahara problem, deploring the continued stagnation of the political process undertaken by the UN three years after the appointment of the last personal envoy of the Secretary General of the international body, Staffan de Mistura.

To relaunch international efforts and measurement, the CPP reiterated its call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire by the Polisario Front and the holding of a sincere and responsible Saharawi debate involving all political currents including the Polisario, tribal notables and representatives of Saharawi civil society in order to agree on a peaceful and honourable solution to the tragedy suffered by the Saharawis for more than five decades.

The MSP also reiterated its availability and conviction as to the feasibility of a political agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco through the roadmap announced at the Dakar Conference (Senegal) at the end of October 2023. The Commission called again on all Saharawis in the Tindouf camps not to waste time in the infighting of a Polisario in decline and to mobilise within the framework of the MSP to safeguard the interest and the rights of our people and to avoid missing a new opportunity for peace and prosperity.

The members of the Permanent Political Commission also reviewed the work carried out by the Movement both internally and externally in the first half of this year. The highest body of the MSP positively assessed the work of the coordinators, committees and groupings on the ground, as well as the International Relations Commission, and insisted on the importance and need to strengthen activities at the international level.

Finally, the CPP discussed the document prepared by the Commission for Rules and Statutes at the request of the first secretary regarding a possible six-month postponement of the Second Congress of the MSP scheduled for the beginning of next October. In this regard, the CPP decided to submit this resolution to the Assembly in which all the bodies of the MSP participate.
