The MSP expresses its solidarity with the family of Trayih after being deprived of humanitarian aid in the Tindouf camps
Mohammed Cherif, responsible for International Relations of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP), has denounced, through an official statement, the situation of the family of Trayih, resident in the Saharawi refugee camps of Tindouf in Algeria, after being "unjustly deprived" of humanitarian aid and food in retaliation for the decision of one of its members to join the MSP itself.
The MSP has also made an urgent appeal to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to directly supervise the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Tindouf refugee camps.
The MSP and other organisations have been denouncing for years that the Polisario Front and Algeria, who are in charge of managing the Tindouf refugee camps, have long been abusing these Saharawi refugees by not following the official Saharawi line on the Western Sahara issue.
The official statement of the MSP is reproduced below:
Statement by Mohammed Cherif, responsible for international relations of the MSP:
Appeal to UNHCR and European humanitarian agencies and organisations.
"In my capacity as International Relations Officer of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP), I wish to express our solidarity with the family of Trayih, a resident of the Tindouf refugee camps, who have been unjustly deprived of humanitarian aid and food in retaliation for the decision of one of their members to join the MSP.
The tragic experience of Trayih's family highlights the immoral practices prevailing in the Tindouf camps that severely compromise human rights and humanitarian access for those who choose the path of peace, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
We urgently call on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to directly monitor the distribution of humanitarian aid in the Tindouf refugee camps. We also call on the UNHCR to ensure that this vital assistance reaches the people in need directly, without passing through the hands of the Polisario Front, which uses it as a tool of repression against the population.
We also alert Spanish and European organisations in general, as well as the European Union, that provide humanitarian aid to the populations of the Tindouf camps and urge them to be vigilant and ensure that the aid reaches the people in need by avoiding any misuse for political purposes.
It is time to take decisive action to put an end to such unjust practices and create a better future for all the inhabitants of the Tindouf refugee camps."
