According to a statement from the Front, Hamoudi died yesterday, September 1 “a martyr on the field of honor, along with four of his comrades.” The Polisario declared three days of mourning for Hamoudi's death, starting in the early morning of September 2. Although the statement did not mention the details of the incident, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that they were attacked by a Moroccan drone. So far there has been no comment from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR).

This is happening at a time when the fighters of the Front are launching intermittent attacks against the positions of the Moroccan Army, since Morocco announced the liberation of the border region with Mauritania, Guerguerat, from the bandits who were hindering the movement of commercial trucks towards Mauritania and the Sahara.

According to the Front, Abba Ali was an outstanding leader who was elected a member of the National Secretariat during the sixteenth conference of the Front and joined the ranks of the Saharawi People's Liberation Army in 1975, assuming leadership functions in it, starting with the leader of a group, a battalion, up to the deputy commander of a military district, passing through the National Gendarmerie headquarters to the headquarters of the sixth military district.

The statement of the Front states that he participated in many military operations, including the battles of Ain Bentili, Bir Um Akrin, Adam, Arkoub, Boujdour and Kaltah. He was wounded numerous times in various parts of the body during the intervention operations of the French Jaguar in 1977, Azmul al-Nir in 1984 and al-Sweihat in 1987.

He also benefited from multiple military training courses in Syria, Libya and Algeria. This incident recalls the assassination of Al-Dah Al-Bandir, commander of the Polisario Front Gendarmerie, in April 2021, in a Moroccan drone attack.
