The Three Cultures Foundation begins a series of debates on Mediterranean geopolitics

The current situation in the Mediterranean, a geographical area which, particularly on its southern shores - Maghreb, North Africa and the Middle East - is always the scene of change and a chessboard where struggles for resources, influence and power are played out, as well as where the waves generated by other conflicts end up bouncing back, deserves to be assessed.

This complex reality is now compounded by the repercussions of a war in Europe, as well as cross-cutting trends such as those stemming from the post-pandemic economic crisis, unresolved social and political transitions, the threat of environmental crisis in a context of limited essential resources, and the technological revolution and its socio-economic effects.

In view of these issues, the Three Cultures Foundation, in collaboration with the Real Instituto Elcano and with the help of national and international analysts, intends to carry out a reflection that will serve to analyse this current geopolitical situation, which is very much in the spotlight. This reflection will take place over five sessions, in which specialists will debate the issues and also encourage debate with those taking part.

The first of the sessions, which will take place on 28 April at 19:00, will focus on 'Conversations on current affairs in the Maghreb and the Middle East. The impact of the war in Ukraine on the Middle East', and will feature Maha Yahya, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center (Beirut) as speaker. She will be accompanied by Haizam Amirah Fernández, senior researcher at the Real Instituto Elcano.
