Trump adviser affirms that Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara is irreversible
Massad Boulos explained in a statement to Sky News Arabia, broadcast today, Monday, that the Trump administration is working daily with Rabat and Algiers to draft a UN resolution that brings the points of view closer together, confirming that “Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara is a fundamental and irreversible issue for President Trump.”
He stressed that the autonomy proposal put forward by Morocco is “the best possible framework” for resolving the decades-long conflict.
He also pointed to an advanced proposal presented by King Mohammed VI three months ago, in his speech on August 6, 2025, expressing the US administration's anticipation of the King's expected speech on the 50th anniversary of the Green March on November 6, 2025, which could contain new information that would reinforce the path toward a solution.
The statement comes in a sensitive diplomatic context, with Massad Boulos alluding to his previous tours of the region, including his visit to Algeria in July 2025, where he discussed with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune constructive solutions that take into account regional stability and common economic interests.
It should be noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously called for the adoption of autonomy as the sole basis for negotiation, reinforcing the accuracy and credibility of Massad Boulos' statement.
With the anniversary of the Green March approaching, it appears that the United States is seeking to accelerate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, in the hope that direct negotiations between Morocco and Algeria will open new horizons for peace and cooperation in the Maghreb region.
