Ukraine has already completed the EU membership application form
Ukraine has already completed the form to be recognised as an applicant country for membership of the European Union (EU), reports the Ukrinform portal, which cites sources close to the country's president, Volodymir Zelenski.
This followed the steps and deadlines set by the president of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, the source continues, recalling the German politician's recent visit to Kiev, where she met with Zelenski.
The Ukrainian authorities now expect "a positive response" to the request from Brussels.
Kiev hopes that the application will be taken up at the next EU summit on 23-24 June and that its status as an applicant for EU membership will be recognised.
Von der Leyen met with Zelenski in Kiev on 8 April. There, she handed the Ukrainian leader the aforementioned form, with a commitment to process it, once it had been completed, during the following week.
