To show his support and recognition for these outstanding students, the president of the 'la Caixa' Foundation, Isidro Fainé, met with the 50 undergraduate scholarship recipients for the 2023 academic year, many of whom are now halfway through their university studies.

'With the Undergraduate Scholarship Programme, we are opening the doors to the future for talented young people who dream of transforming their lives through university education. We promote equity and equal opportunities because we believe in a society in which each person's effort and potential can shine without barriers,' said Isidro Fainé, who during the meeting shared with the scholarship recipients 'the virtues that characterise a leader and which, according to Homer in The Iliad, are justice and good judgement; wisdom and counsel; sagacity and caution; and courage and action.'

According to data published in 2024 by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, 29% of university students in Spain need financial support to complete their studies. Since 2021, the ”la Caixa” Foundation's Undergraduate Scholarship Programme has aimed to promote equal opportunities in access to university education. The programme, which combines academic excellence and social equity, has enabled 255 talented young people with limited financial resources to attend university in its first five years.

The 'la Caixa' Foundation held a meeting with the 50 undergraduate scholarship recipients for the 2023 academic year, an event to recognise these outstanding students with limited financial resources who have already completed the first years of their university studies. The event was attended by the president of the 'la Caixa' Foundation, Isidro Fainé, along with other executives from the organisation.

The Undergraduate Scholarship Programme offers students a monthly stipend of 750 euros, enabling them to devote themselves fully to their studies on a full-time basis. In addition, scholarship recipients receive initial assistance to purchase computer equipment and supplies, additional grants for international stays, language courses, academic guidance and a training programme in cross-cutting skills.

The scholarship also includes networking activities through face-to-face and virtual meetings. At the end of the second year of the degree programme, a face-to-face meeting is held in Barcelona, which this year took place during the third week of July. Over four days, the scholarship holders were able to share ideas, strengthen ties and acquire new knowledge through various activities, cultural visits and a session with their academic advisors.
