Art for Change of the "la Caixa" Foundation opens its 2022 call to promote new artistic projects for social transformation
The "la Caixa" Foundation has opened the new call for the Art for Change 2022 programme with the aim of putting art at the service of society and thus contributing to social transformation. The deadline for submitting projects that promote active access to culture will remain open until 31 May, and the selected proposals will be announced in November.
Since 2008, this call for proposals has been offering aid and support to artists and cultural organisations from all over Spain that promote projects in the plastic arts, photography, music, literature, theatre, dance and circus. These initiatives involve groups in vulnerable situations, or people from the same environment, who have the opportunity to come into contact with art and culture. In this way, the projects promote equality of conditions and the empowerment of individuals and groups through artistic processes.
The new edition of the "la Caixa" Foundation's Art for Change programme will promote participatory or community art projects that respond to the needs that are emerging in society in the current context, favouring processes of transformation.
The "la Caixa" Foundation will allocate a total budget of 450,000 euros to the selected projects. In addition, the programme also offers them advice and support throughout the process, the possibility of feeding into the programmes of the CaixaForum network of centres and the CaixaForum Plus digital platform, as well as spaces for exchange, contrast and community creation. A community of art and culture professionals committed to society who, through their projects, explore new ways of relating to each other and to our environment.
The programme coordinators emphasise: "Year after year we have the privilege of supporting professional artists who put their work at the service of people. Artists who accompany groups in vulnerable situations to communicate through art with the aim of being active agents of change and creators of their reality".
In the 2021 call, more than 220 proposals were submitted by artists and cultural entities from all over Spain, from which 19 projects were selected to be carried out during 2022 in the provinces of Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Castellón, León and Badajoz, in which nearly 1,500 people will participate. Some of the aspects highlighted by the selected initiatives are the visibility of mental health, active listening to promote cultural diversity and dance as a powerful tool to inhabit the body and channel emotions, among others.
The "la Caixa" Foundation has been a pioneer in the search for new ways of understanding culture. From this vocation was born, in 2007, Art for Change, a programme that combines artistic creation and personal and social transformation, which encourages participation in creative processes in different artistic disciplines to favour collaboration and inclusion, and which is respectful of diversity and open to learning and listening to society.
Through "la Caixa" Foundation's Art for Change, initiatives are promoted that offer participants the opportunity to come into contact with art and culture, promoting equal conditions and opportunities, the empowerment of individuals or groups through an artistic process and community-based social regeneration through activities that contribute to the development of neighbourhoods or social groups.
